CARLISLE — A nutritious meal and activities that will include sports, arts and crafts, checking out library books, and field trips to the movies and to go swimming will all be on the agenda of the Town of Carlisle’s Summer Lunch & Activities Program.

Mayor Mary Ferguson-Glenn said Thursday that the program, which is in its sixth year, will be held at the Carlisle Town Hall from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Monday-Thursday, beginning Monday, June 4. Ferguson-Glenn said the program, which will run through Aug. 2, is open to children up to the age of 18 who live in the Carlisle community. She said the main purpose of the program is to ensure that the children of the community have a least one nutritious meal a day and are involved in organized activities while school is out.

“It’s about feeding the children and giving them something do during the long, hot summer,” Ferguson-Glenn said. “There are some children who only get a nutritious meal at school and with school closed they’re not getting that. This is program is about making sure that during the summer they get at least one nutritious meal a day.”

In addition to providing the children with lunch, the program also provides them with a range of activities.

“We will have arts and crafts and there will be games and athletic activities,” Ferguson-Glenn said. “There will also be classes in nutrition and we will have an exercise period. We will also have field trips to go swimming and to go to the movies. The Carnegie Library Bookmobile will be here at the town hall during that time and the children will be able to check out books.”

Ferguson-Glenn added that the town is not paying for the program which is funded by donations from private individuals, businesses and other organizations. The program is operated by volunteers of whom Ferguson-Glenn said more are needed. She urged those who can to volunteer and help give the children participating in the program a summer full of wonderful memories.

“It’s all about the children,” Ferguson-Glenn said.
