The Union County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a break-in at a local golf course in which the thief or thieves stole $6,000 in cash from two cash registers, a safe and a video game machine.
The incident report states the complainant said he locked up the club house around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. When he returned the next day around 8 a.m. he found that someone had kicked a side door open. The door opens onto a hallway that leads to the men’s locker room.
The complainant said when he entered the pro shop area he discovered that someone had attempted to break into the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) and had broken into the cash register and a fire safe in the shop’s office area. A cash register and a video game machine in the snack bar area had also been broken into and the money they contained removed also removed. No money appeared to have been removed from the ATM.
The report states the phone lines at the back of the building had been cut and the alarm siren and panel removed from the wall.
Metal Theft
The sheriff’s office is also looking for the thief or thieves who stole $500 worth of scrap metal from a Jonesville area business.
The incident report states a deputy met with the family of the victim on Monday and was told that someone had cut a hole in the side of the fence at 1021 Spartanburg Highway, Jonesville, and stole several scrap metal items including:
• Two Ford motor heads
• A clutch from a D-7 bulldozer
• Various other bulldozer parts
Chickens Stolen
A thief who stole a rooster and a hen from their pens on the Riley Road is also being sought by the sheriff’s office.
The incident report states that a deputy was dispatched Monday evening to 181 Riley Road, Buffalo, in reference to the larceny of some chickens. The victim said that he’d noticed two of his chickens were missing out of their pens. He said the last time he’d seen them was around 6:30 p.m. the previous day.
The victim said that one of his neighbors had told him that they’d seen a black male walk toward his chicken pens. The neighbor also said the man was riding in a small, black four-door automobile.
The chickens stolen included a grey toppie rooster valued at $200 and white toppie hen valued at $100.
Vandalism
An act of vandalism that damaged a water fountain at a ball field is also being investigated by the sheriff’s office.
The incident report states an employee of the Union County Recreation Department informed the responding deputy that he he’d discovered that a water fountain in one of the dugouts at the ball field at 387 Hawthorne Road, Union, had been damaged. The employee said the water line and the drain pipe had been damaged causing the fountain not to work.
Damage to the fountain is estimated at $300. The report states the fountain was vandalized sometime between 3 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Tuesday.
