He was in his car and ready to leave, but a Union man’s decision to allegedly get out of his car and hit a woman in the face landed him in jail Saturday night.

Ernest Woods Jr., 31, 932 Lovers Lane Road, Union, is charged by the public safety department with criminal domestic violence third offense.

The incident report states that an officer responded to a domestic disturbance Saturday night at 1111 Lakeside Drive, Apt. #38E, Union. The victim said that she’d been assaulted by Woods when he came to her apartment and dropped off their daughter. She said he then got in his car, but when she approached the vehicle he got back out and hit her on the left side of her face twice with his fist. He then got back in his car and left.

The report states that two witnesses told the officer they’d seen Woods attack the victim. The officer got written statements from both of the witnesses and from the victim.

Woods then returned to the apartment where he was taken into custody and transported to jail.

Assault And Battery

A Union man ended up in jail Sunday after he allegedly walked into a house and attacked another man.

Derrick Lamont Fleming, 34, 417 S. Mountain St., Union, is charged by the public safety department with assault and battery.

The incident report states officers were dispatched Sunday night to 104 Mills Lane, Union, in reference to an assault. The victim told the officers that while he was at the residence visiting his girlfriend, Fleming came into the house and started arguing and mouthing off as he walked through the building. He said that as Fleming began to leave the building he turned toward him and started hitting him about the head and face as he was sitting on the couch.

While officers were unable to find any injuries on the victim, the report states the victim’s girlfriend and another witness gave verbal and written statements that they’d seen Fleming attack him.

The report states officers were then told by one of the witnesses that she’d just received a call from Fleming and that she believed he was at a relative’s house at 413 S. Mountain St. Officers went there and spoke with Fleming’s relative who said he was in the house. Fleming was then placed under arrest and transported to jail.
