Bullying Prevention Program

On April 25 and 26 the Buffalo Elementary Bullying Prevention Coordinating Committee Members met at the Union County Museum for the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program training given by Dr. Mark Mitchell from Winthrop University. Members were trained in how to implement the program which will begin during the 2012-2013 school year. Committee members include: Tammy Fisher, Rick Wade, Melissa Inman, Kathy Taylor, Stefanie Smith, Melissa Justice, Teresa Lawson, Leah Leonhardt, Susan Cunningham, Kasi Wilson, Annette Lyles, Robbie Hines, Dr. Kristi Woodall, Shannon Austin, Anne Rampey, and Ellen Lassiter.

WHITMIRE HIGH SCHOOL will celebrate 100 years beginning with a museum tour at 9 am, and includes food, fun, games, rides, parade and entertainment noon-6 p.m.

SHOW-N-SHINE CRUISER CAR CLUB Chapter II will host a car show at Union County Fairgrounds, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with cash drawing every hour; awards, door prizes games and more. THE UNION COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY will meet at 3 p.m. in the meeting room of the Museum. Speaker will be Mr. John Robertson, Park Historian, Cowpens National Battlefield. His subject will be the Scots-Irish in South Carolina during the American Revolution. At Cowpens the Patriots whipped the well trained British Forces in less that an hour. How? Come and learn. The back entrance will be open for those wishing to avoid the stairs. Visitors welcome. For information call the Museum at 864-429-5981.

THE WALLACE THOMSON HOSPITAL VOLUNTEERS will have a book & gift sale in the hospital lobby May 22, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and May 23, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Find great gifts and books at affordable prices.

THE UNION COUNTY SENIOR CITIZENS CLUB will meet at 6 p.m. at Mon-Aetna Baptist Church Fellowship Hall for a covered dish supper. We still have some seats available for the August New York trip. If you are interested call Patty Morrison at 674-5167. Rick and Carol Dizbon will provide the entertainment.

UHS CLASS OF 1972 will have their reunion at Veterans Park at 6 p.m. with a picnic 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

TROOP 332 will have hash and barbecue available at 6 p.m. at Pye Ward’s hash house, junction of Hwy. 215 and Beltline (Monarch Hwy). Cooking begins May 25. Proceeds support Troop 332 activities and advancement expenses. For information call 427-5739 or 426-0157.

PINCKNEY DISTRICT CHAPTER of the SC Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. at Church of the Nativity, 530 S. Church St., Union. There will be a cemetery tour. Tommy Bishop will give a tour of the church and discuss the history of Nativity.

SIMS HIGH CLASS OF 1968 will meet at 5 p.m. at 1101 Union Blvd. Business of importance.

THE UNION COUNTY BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION will meet at 7 p.m. in the Clemson Extension Meeting Room. All interested in beekeeping are invited. Program will be harvesting honey.

THE NEW EMANUEL BAPTIST CHURCH has opened a free clothes closet in the back of the Municipal Building in Jonesville. Hours of operation will be Tuesday and Friday 9:30 a.m.-noon.

THE UNION MUSIC CLUB will have a free, open meeting/concert through May 13 in observance of National Music Week in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church at 6 p.m. The program will feature several local piano students and the UCHS Gifted and Talented Music Class Chorus.
