Much as he might want to, man does not live by automobiles alone. That's where the hot dogs, potato chips and drinks provided by the NAPA Auto Parts store on the South Duncan Bypass came in Thursday. The refreshments were served by the store as part of its annual car show, tool sale, and customer appreciation event. Tim Floyd and Bobby DeHart were busy Thursday morning laying out of the hot dogs to be grilled for the hundreds of people who came for lunch later that day.

A local store’s tradition of showing its customers how much their support is appreciated continued Thursday when NAPA Auto Parts store held its annual car show, tool sale and customer appreciation event.

The day began with the store’s parking lot filling up with a wide variety of cars provided by their owners for display during the car show. The cars ranged from go-karts, dragsters and other racing vehicle to antique automobiles that first rolled off the assembly line in the middle of the 20th century. The vehicles were on display throughout the day in the parking lot in front of and around the side of the store and along North Duncan Bypass.

“We’ve got drag cars, show cars, dirt track cars, a dragster and go-karts,” store owner Tim DeHart said. “Most of them are provided by individuals, by friends, by customers who have done business with me for the past 28 years.”

DeHart, who purchased the store in December, said this is the seventh year NAPA has held its customer appreciation event. In addition to providing customers with an opportunity to view and examine a wide range of contemporary and vintage automobiles, the store also lowers its prices for the duration of the customer appreciation event which DeHart said would continue after the car show.

“Every tool we’ve got is on sale,” DeHart said. “Hand tools, professional tools, and any kind of shop equipment. Everything is on sale through next Friday.”

In addition to the car show and tool sale, the store also treated customers to a free lunch featuring hot dogs, potato chips, soft drinks, and bottled water.

“We put the tools on sale for the customers,” DeHart said. “We have the cars for people to come out and see. We have the hot dogs for them to to eat and they’re free.”

NAPA Auto Parts store is located at 322 N. Duncan Bypass, Union. The store, which sells automotive parts and tools, employs a staff of 11.
