JONESVILLE — The funds raised during a fish fry earlier this month will be used by a mentoring group to take the youth they mentor to an Atlanta Braves game this summer.
Men of Action held a fish fry fundraiser on April 14, selling fried fish sandwiches, hot dogs and chili on Main Street in Jonesville. Group Chaplain Ernest Moore said Wednesday that the sale netted the group approximately $400 and is one of several fundraisers Men of Action will be holding during the coming weeks. Moore said the money raised will be used to cover the cost of a trip to Atlanta, Ga., the group is planning for this summer. He said the group is planning to take the youth they mentor to an Atlanta Braves game.
“We usually rent a 57-passenger bus to take 40-45 of the young men we mentor and 12 adults to Atlanta for a Braves game,” Moore said. “The money we raise from the fish fry and the other fundraisers we will be having will pay for the bus rental.”
Men of Action mentors Jonesville area youth, providing them with tutoring in academic subjects such as math, science, history, and English as well teaching them skills in the areas of carpentry and landscaping.
Moore pointed out that Men of Action is a 401C-3 organization and any donations it receives are tax deductible. Donations may be mailed to Men of Action, PO Box 682, Jonesville, SC, 29353.
