Saluda fires Wayne Bell

Wayne Bell was fired as Saluda’s head football coach during a Tuesday morning meeting with administrators.

Bell told the Greenwood Index-Journal he was told that administrators “wanted to go in a new direction.”

Bell has a 14-27 record in four years with the program and one playoff appearance in 2006. The Tigers were 4-6 last season.

Bell is a former defensive coordinator at Union, coaching on three state championship teams with the Jackets.

Team Aruba makes finals

Team Aruba went to the finals at the U.S. Street Nationals over the weekend in Bradenton, Fla.

Driver Trevor Eman qualified second and then drove his Ford to the finals.

Team Aruba’s car was one of only two naturally aspirated (fuel motor) cars competing, as the rest engaged nitro.

Eman lost in the finals to a five-stage nitro car.

“We held our own and represented Union well,” said team owner Ven Eman.

Team Aruba is based in Union and promotes the county. The race was shown on webcast Tuesday night and complete results can be found at www.streetlegaltv.com.
