Union County put on a hitting clinic in the first region AAA-III match up of baseball season, defeating Greer 8-0.

The Jackets jumped out to an early lead, scoring six of their eight runs in the first two innings.

Greer had no answer for the Jackets’ hot bats and very little for Union County’s senior southpaw, Josh Simpson who pitched the shutout.

Simpson hurled seven strong innings with four strikeouts, allowing four hits.

The Yellow Jackets touched up Greer’s pitchers for 15 hits in the contest.

Recus Hughes was dominant at the plate, going 4-4 with two doubles and four RBI to lead the Jackets.

Mark Jeter was 2-3 with an RBI and Dustin Payne was 2-3.

Simpson helped himself at the plate, going 2-4 with a double and an RBI.

Jake Walton, Cal Arnold, Keimond Eison and Devonte Glenn also contributed hits for Union County.
