UNION — Mr. Herbert Foster Johnson, Sr., 83, widower of Jettie Shetley Johnson, 1711 Whitmire Highway, Union, died Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at his home after a period of declining health.

Mr. Johnson was born in Union, May 10, 1928, a son of late William Z. Johnson and Etta Glass Johnson. He was a self-employed plumber and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Johnson was a veteran of the US Marine Corp having served during World War II. He was very active with the American Legion serving as a past District Commander and a past Local Commander.

Mr. Johnson was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Strother and husband Bob, and Sandra J. Johnson, all of Greenville; three sons, Herbert F. Johnson, Jr. and wife Jeanette of St. Louis, MO, David K. Johnson and wife Angie of Ferrum, VA and Glenn E. Johnson of Union; and a number of beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Veterans Memorial Building at Foster Park conducted by Rev. Robert Branch and Rev. Sanders Read.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Building prior to the funeral services.

Members of the American Legion will serve as the honorary escort.
