What began as a traffic stop for a suspended driver’s license ended with a Union man facing drug charges.
Preston Recado Beaty, 24, 114 Sunset Lane, Union, is charged by the Union Public Safety Department with driving under suspension seventh offense, being a habitual offender, and possession of a controlled substance.
The incident report states that just before 5 p.m. Thursday, an officer on patrol in the area of Rice Avenue observed Beaty at the wheel of a black Chevy Impala at the intersection of Hick Street and Rice Avenue. The officer knew that Beaty’s driver’s license was suspended and turned around his patrol vehicle to make a traffic stop. As he attempted to catch up to the Impala, the report states Beaty was trying to get away. The officer caught up with Beaty at Wedgewood Court.
As the officer exited his patrol vehicle, the report states Beaty exited the Impala and attempted to flee on foot but the officer was able to apprehend him. With the help of another officer, the responding officer was able to take Beaty to the ground and handcuff him. The officer then checked Beaty’s license to verify that it was suspended and, when this was confirmed, placed Beaty under arrest and transported him to jail.
While at the jail, the report states officers found two round white pills believed to be Hydrocodone wrapped in wax paper in Beaty’s right front pocket.

A Union man was arrested after he allegedly kicked in a door and punched a woman.
