CARLISLE — Residents here will go to the polls in April to fill the town council seat left vacant by the election of Mayor Mary Ferguson Glenn.

Carlisle Town Council voted unanimously to hold the special election on April 7. The seat has been vacant since Mrs. Glenn resigned after being elected mayor in November. The winner will serve the remaining two years of Mrs. Glenn’s term.

Filing for the seat will be open from noon Jan. 30 to noon Feb. 9. Persons wanting to run must be 18 years of age or older, a resident of the town, fill out a statement of candidacy at the Carlisle Town Hall and pay a $50 filing fee.

Census

Administrator Shannon McBride said that the U.S. Census Bureau will be conducting tests for potential census takers at the town hall at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 22 and 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12.

Flood Insurance

Mrs. McBride said the town has been accepted into the National Flood Insurance program. She said this will allow Carlisle residents to apply for flood insurance through their insurance companies at a reduced rate. Anyone wanting further information about the program should call the town hall at 427-1505.
