Hoping for a lead in the case, Union Public Safety officers are circulating a photo of the man who forcibly took money from a clerk at Burger King Sunday night.

The photo of the strong-armed robber was taken from a surveillance video at the restaurant on 508 North Duncan By-Pass.

Sunday night shortly after 8, a black man wearing a black jacket, red T-shirt and blue jeans came into Burger King and went straight to the restroom. He came out, walked to the counter and placed an order for a Whopper Junior. He handed the clerk cash, and as she made change he reached into the cash register with both hands, grabbed $115 and took off running out the door and toward the rear of the building.

Chief Sam White said it appears the robber left the area on foot. The clerk did not know the man.

“If anybody has any information about this we ask they call Crime Stoppers or the public safety department,” White said. “The video had a pretty good picture of the man. We have the video at public safety if anybody wants to come look at it; we will be glad to show it to them.”

The phone number for Crime Stoppers is 427-0800. The public safety department’s number is 429-1713.
