Red light and police needed at intersection

To the editor:

There is potential danger at the intersection of New Hope Church Road and Hwy 176!

Two years ago I wrote requesting a traffic signal. What we got was a caution light. It is a very dangerous place. Cars speed and there’s no way you can see over the hill (the) oncoming traffic. JEMS has a great plan in place to get the children to their waiting cars safely, but when you leave the grounds to the highway it’s between you and God! We need to protect our precious cargo!

Traveling from my doctor’s office on Reidville Road down Hwy 215 passing three schools — Linville Hills, Roebuck, and Pauline — there were police officers directing traffic and protecting the children. You know, I worked in Jonesville at a beauty salon that was broken into three times. One time the perpetrator broke the glass window and left blood/DNA evidence at the scene, but the police couldn’t solve the crime. Now they are asking for bulletproof vests, in-car cameras, etc. If they are in the jurisdiction of the school, why couldn’t they go out there and direct traffic, wouldn’t cost anything extra. If they are not in the jurisdiction, please get the county police involved.

There have been many wrecks at that intersection. I wonder if there has to be a quota of people to lose their lives before something is done? We have to do something! Ideally we need a red light and police directing traffic. I have seen, in the past, a police car parked at the intersection with the policeman in the car. What good is that?

Thank you for your time,

Pollie Robinson
