JONESVILLE - For the second time in less than four years, a Jonesville family has lost their home to fire.
Firefighters were called to the log home of Keith and Shannon Case and their five children on 626 Hames Ave. around 6:21 p.m. Saturday. Jonesville Fire Chief Jimmy Wilkins said though firefighters were on the scene within seven minutes, the house was engulfed in flames when they arrived.
The Cases were not at home at the time of the blaze; Wilkins said the last family member had left home around 5:30 p.m. A neighbor who did not have a phone spotted the fire and went to another neighbor's house and asked that 911 be called.
The fire is believed to have started in a bedroom where an electric space heater was hooked up to a drop cord.
Jonesville was assisted in fighting the fire by Kelly-Kelton and Bonham fire departments. Wilkins said the logs began to separate and firefighters had to attack the blaze from the outside, which made fighting the fire difficult.
In 2005, the Cases were living in a double-wide mobile home on the same site that was destroyed by fire. Wilkins said Oakbrook Community Church had assisted them with building the log home. The dollar value of the home had not been determined as of Sunday.
The family spent Saturday night at the American Economy Inn. Wilkins said they are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The children in the family range in age from 2 to 9.
