A Union man was airlifted to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center late Wednesday after being stabbed by his brother with a fillet knife.

Hospital spokeswoman Christina Adkinson said Ricky Sweezy, 53, of 139 East Forrest Drive is in serious condition.

A Union County Sheriff's Office report said Edward Sweezy, 55, who lives at the same address as Ricky Sweezy, called 911 around 11 p.m. and said he had stabbed his brother.

Edward told Cpl. Jeff Wright that Ricky started hitting him in the head with an ashtray. The two wrestled around on the floor and Edward then got up and went to his bedroom. Edward said he got into bed and covered up, hoping Ricky would leave him alone. Edward said Ricky then entered his bedroom and started hitting him again with his hands. Edwards said he was unable to get up and unable to stop Ricky from hitting him. Edward said he had a fish fillet knife on his night stand. He grabbed it and jabbed blindly in Ricky's direction, stabbing him in the left side of the chest. He said Ricky attempted to take the knife from him until he noticed the extent of his injury. Edward said he hid the knife and called 911.

Edward said he had consumed two beers and Ricky had been drinking all day.

Deputies were unable to talk with Ricky before he was airlifted.

Lt. Robbie Hines said the incident is under investigation and no arrests have been made.

Arrested in connection with theft

Richard Blake Boulware, 26, of 1530 Gaffney Highway was charged Wednesday by the sheriff's office with receiving stolen goods. According to an arrest warrant signed by Lt. Al Black, Boulware had in his possession firearms stolen from a home on 326 Wesley Chapel Road, Union, on Aug. 18.

The victim told Sgt. Russell Vinson he came home and found his back door had been forced open. Items missing included four guns, a safe, a lockbox and a piggy bank containing coins and cash.
