Local Scouts will be “Scouting for Food” this Saturday in many neighborhoods.

On Nov. 8, members of various troops and packs left door hangers advertising the program. Karla Rector, Troop 42 chairperson, said many homes were not covered due to smaller numbers of Scouts.

Union troops and packs will pick up food on Saturday from 9 a.m. until noon. The Department of Social Services will be the drop-off center. Anyone who did not receive a door hanger may drop off food at DSS during those same hours.

Some of the food will be given to local church food banks. The majority will remain at DSS.

Those who choose to donate food to the program are asked to place a few canned goods or non/perishable items in plastic bags and leave them on their doorstep.

Scouting for food not only provides items for local food banks but also offers an opportunity for Scouts to become involved in community service. It is the largest door to door food collection effort in the six counties of the Palmetto Council.
