JONESVILLE - The Jonesville Police Depart-ment is buying a gun safe.
Jonesville Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize Chief Jimmy Wilkins to purchase the safe for the department. Wilkins said a gun safe, which costs approximately $500, will better secure police and confiscated weapons.
“We've got an evidence room but we still need a more secure means of storing both department weapons and confiscated guns,” he said. “Right now extra and unissued department weapons are kept in a locked filing cabinet and that's how they've been kept for years. I think we need a more secure means to store our weapons and any guns we happen to confiscate.”
To further ensure the safekeeping of all firearms, Wilkins said that only he will have access to the safe.
