ENOREE - Marion Emerson “Duke” Briggs, 67, of 122 Sparkstown Dr., Enoree, husband of Marion Lee Moorman “Sister” Briggs, died Monday, Oct, 13, 2008, at his residence after a brief illness.

Mr. Briggs was born in Union County June 2, 1941, a son of the late Avlonia “Buster” and Junior E. Yarbough Briggs. He was educated in the Union County School system and was a brick mason his entire life. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife are:four daughters, Mary Louise Briggs of Spartanburg, Barbara Jean Evans and Caroline Briggs, both of Union, Sheila (Willie David) Toland of Greenville; three sons, James Earl (Bernadette) Briggs of Cedar Hill, Texas, Jerome Emerson (Brenda) Briggs of Woodruff, and Tarrance Dewone (Kesha) Briggs of Enoree; three brothers, Rufus Ray Briggs of Union, Thomas Edward (Addie Mae) Briggs of Enoree, and Donald (Bernice) Briggs of Moore; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct.17, 2008, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. J. Lewis Peake. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The family is at the home, 122 Sparkstown Drive, Enoree.
