A Union man has been arrested in an altercation that occurred at a Union liquor store more than a year ago.
Chadrick Lynn Robinson, 22, of 346 Pineneedle Road was charged Thursday by the Union Public Safety Department with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and malicious damage to property. He was released from the Union County Jail after posting 10 percent of bonds totaling $6,089.
First Sgt. Troy Wright said a warrant was signed on Robinson the day of the incident, but officers had not been able to locate him.
A report said Cpl. Jerome Beatty responded to an assault call at Robinson's ABC Store on 400 B Union Boulevard on June 9, 2007.
Beatty found Marcus Ruth, 23, lying on the pavement and EMS personnel were trying to treat him. Beatty had to assist EMS in restraining Ruth, who was uncooperative and assaulting EMS personnel.
Once Ruth settled down, Beatty was able to get information from him.
Ruth told officers he went to the store for his parents and when he got out of the car, Robinson called him over to the car he was in. Ruth said Robinson got out of the car and took a swing at him. Ruth said he avoided the punch and told Robinson “lets talk about the situation instead of fighting.”
Ruth said Robinson then charged at him, slamming him to the ground and causing him to hit his head on the pavement. He said he didn't remember anything that happened after he hit his head. He told Beatty he didn't want to fight anybody because he is on disability for injuries he received to his head in a car accident and “one wrong move could end his life.”
The report said there were some existing issues between Ruth and Robinson concerning a woman.
Ruth was taken to Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Ruth's father, Robert Ruth, was called to pick up the vehicle his son was in. He pointed out two dents in the right rear quarter panel that weren't there when his son left to go to the ABC Store.
Robinson's arrest warrant said he pushed Ruth against his mother's Honda Accord, causing the damage.
