A Buffalo man is accused of enticing two underaged boys to shoplift food with him.
Heath Montgomery Millwood, 34, of 213 South St. was charged Monday by the Union Public Safety Department with shoplifting and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. According to arrest warrants signed by Sgt. Kevin Powers, the boys involved in the case are 15 and 16. Their names were not released because they are minors.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. at Piggly Wiggly on East Main Street. When Powers arrived at the store, an employee already had the two juveniles in custody.
The employee said an older man - later identified as Millwood - handed merchandise over to both the boys. One put the turkey pepperoni in his left front pants pocket. The other put the picnic ham in the front of his pants.
One of the boys told Powers he did not know Millwood's name. The other said he had only met Millwood that night and all he knew was his last name.
While Powers was gathering information, a green Ford Mustang pulled up and a woman told Powers she was the mother of one of the boys in custody. Powers asked her how she knew her son had been caught shoplifting. She said Millwood had told her and he was in the car.
Powers and Officer Leon Lancaster took Millwood into custody and took him into the store. The employee who had called police identified him as the man who had been with the boys.
Millwood was taken to the Union County Jail. The boys were released to the custody of their parents. Their cases will be heard in Family Court.
Burglary
The Union County Sheriff's Office is investigating a burglary reported Monday at a vacant mobile home on 523 Bobby Faucette Road.
The victim told Deputy Wendy Childers she went to the trailer on Sept. 7 and noticed the washer and dryer were gone, but did not file a report. She returned on Sunday and found the front windows were broken out. A wooden hope chest, two speakers, a VCR and $50 worth of canned goods were stolen. The total value of the items taken is $375.
