Square dancing, a frying pan throw, hog calling and a kids peddle tractor pull will be among the attractions at the Sixth Annual Union County Antique Farm Equipment Show on Saturday.
The event will be held at the fairgrounds from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Lunch will be available for purchase.
“This year, our saying on our T-shirts and flyers is ‘Preserving the Past,' said Raymond Sligh, secretary of the committee organizing the show. “We hope when people attend the event they will have the opportunity to look at the past and see how much progress has been made. It's a good opportunity to reminisce, visit the past and see how things were done years ago.”
New this year at the show will be Mountain Dan, a chainsaw artist, and an exhibitor with a vast collection of woodworking and carving tools.
Artist Nancy Basket, whose kudzu art is one of her specialties, will have a display.
Beginning at 9 a.m., there will be a chuck wagon; chair caning; chain saw carving; sawmiling; beekeeping; an anvil collection display; corn shelling and shucking; wood carving; a Dutch oven cooking contest; a broad axe collection display; blacksmithing; animals including beef cattle, chickens and goats; soap making; cross-cut sawing; wood splitting; black pot boiled peanuts; and an old homestead display.
At 9:30 a.m. a quilting and museum exhibit will open in the Clemson Extension meeting room.
Tractor games begin at 10 a.m. in the arena including a barrel roll, a slow race and an ugly tractor contest. The Union County Farm Bureau ice cream wagon will offer treats and there will be a kids shelled corn box on the stage.
Square dancers will entertain in the picnic shelter beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Draft horse plowing will be displayed in the arena beginning at 11 a.m.
At 11:30 a.m., a ladies and girls frying pan throwing contest will be held in the arena. The men and boys will have spud wrench toss.
The kids peddle tractor pull will be held at noon in the arena.
Hog calling and a dairy cow milking contest will be held at 1 p.m.
Lunch will be available from 11 a.m. -2 p.m.
A tractor “parade of power” begins at 2 p.m.
At 3 p.m. a cash drawing for exhibitors will take place.
