WHS VOLLEYBALL
GREENVILLE - Southside Christian defeated Whitmire's varsity volleyball team 3-0 on Tuesday.
Scores were: 25-7, 25-8, 25-6.
WHS (0-3) hosts Christ Church on Thursday.
UCDS LADY EAGLES
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Union Christian Day School Lady Eagles defeated Walnut Grove to remain undefeated on Tuesday.
Team captain Hannah Manning led the Eagles in another three-game match victory. The game scores were: 25-13, 25-8 and 25-7.
Sidney Bennett scored 10 points in the first game with five aces, followed by Manning with three points and one kill.
Game two's leading scorer was Gabrielle Cromer with five points, followed by Taylor Cudd with three points, two of which were aces.
Paige Parkins started game three with 12 straight points, one of which was an ace.
The Lady Eagles played their two junior varsity players, Kinsley Hill and Isabella Spencer, in game three. Spencer scored the winning point of the game, with a tip to the front corner of the net.
UCDS girls and boys teams host the Heritage Hornets on Tuesday.
UCHS VOLLEYBALL
York defeated Union County's varsity volleyball team 3-0 on Tuesday.
Scores were: 25-22, 25-18 and 25-19.
“York played very smart and were well coached,” said coach Yoneko Washington. “We made too many mental mistakes. Our passes were not good and we lost focus throughout the match.”
Haley McCoy continued to lead on the floor, making several good passes, even though they were not converted into kills. She ended up with seven assists, two aces and a regular serve point.
Britni Ward had an ace, five kills and three digs. Paige Whitehead had two digs, a good defensive game and served five regular points.
Sonni McFarland had two aces, six regular serve points and a kill. Jessica Hall had an ace and a dig. Meredith Walker served 14 times, got six aces, nine regular serve points and two kills.
Hetti Millwood was focused and ready to play off the bench, serving well, Washington said.
“We must learn to work together as a team and to trust each other,” said Washington. “We must begin to learn and retain the mental aspects of the game. Though we lost, we are improving, but we will not settle for an almost win, we want the win. We will be working hard in practice today to prepare for a good Laurens team.”
UCHS (2-1) travels to Laurens on Thursday.
UCHS TENNIS
Union County's girls' tennis team defeated Woodruff 5-2 on Tuesday.
In singles play, Lauren Harrison lost to Amy Simpkins 3-6, 6-3, 8-10; Hillary Smith won over Toni Messer 6-4, 7-6, (9-7); Abby Allen won over Mindy Fortner 6-3, 3-6, 10-8; Kelsey Harris won over Demi Messer 6-1, 6-2; Kristen Martin won over Lindsey Craig 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles play, Harrison and Harris lost 8-1 to Simpkins and Toni Messer; Brittany Ledford and Rachel Jones won over Sarah Cromer and Rachel Hagerty 6-4, 3- 6, 10-8.
In JV matches, Victoria Barker won 8-2; Logan Wade and Danielle Cogdill tied Woodruff 8-8.
“We will really have to work on our mental toughness,” said Kelly Jenkins. “We had three matches go down to a third set tie-breaker and luckily we won two of those. I'm glad to have the win, but there's a lot of room to improve.”
UCHS CROSS COUNTRY
UCHS' girls' cross country team is ranked 6th in the latest coaches poll.
SIMS VOLLEYBALL
Sims' volleyball team lost 3-0 to Gable on Monday. Scores were: 25-6, 25-7 and 25-17.
“We played well to be our first match,” said coach Tracy Duncan. “The girls were really nervous, but everyone played. This will help with them getting experience.”
Sims (0-1) travels to Woodruff today.
