As a former USC Union student he possesses first-hand knowledge of what the university has to offer.
"I really liked it here," he said. "I know the quality of education that students can receive at USC Union."
Now, as the new student services coordinator, he is responsible for promoting the university and increasing campus enrollment. One of his main goals is to increase knowledge about the campus .
"I want to build a better relationship between USC Union and the surrounding community," he said.
Greer, 27, grew up in Union, but now lives in Spartanburg County. He does, however, have plans to move back to Union with his family. He and his wife, Harmony, have one child, a young daughter, Norah. Harmony is a store manager for Sage Sport in Gaffney.
After he graduated from Union High School, Greer enrolled at USC Union where he received his associate's degree. He said that he has always been a Gamecock fan and wanted to go to a USC affiliated school. The fact that USC Union was close to home appealed to him. During his time at USC Union he worked as a Peer Mentor Tutor for the university's Opportunity Scholars Program.
Upon leaving USC Union, he transferred to USC Upstate where he received a bachelor's degree in sociology. In 2008, he received a master's degree by taking courses at the University Center in Greenville through a joint program of Clemson University and USC. As for his personal goals, Greer said he likes going to school and hopes to further his education by pursuing courses towards a Ph.D. in political science.
Before accepting the position at USC Union he was employed as a manager for Bi-Lo. He said he had worked at Bi-Lo since he began taking classes at USC Upstate and they were always good about working around his school schedule.
Greer wants to convey to potential students that attending USC Union is an enjoyable experience, during which they will receive an exceptional education. For this reason, he said it is better to go to USC Union for two years and then transfer to another college or university. He believes that one of the benefits of choosing USC Union is its lower student/teacher ratio, allowing more one on one interaction. Another benefit is the university's supportive faculty.
"I believe the campus has a lot of room for potential growth. Not just growth in enrollment of students, but in facilities and academic offerings for the students," he said. "I want to be a part of that."
