Whitmire defeated Wagener-Salley 36-3 last Thursday for its first win of 2008, after two blow-out losses to Ninety-Six and Mid-Carolina.
Against Wagener-Salley, Whitmire's offense came alive. Jarrell Ruff-Smalls rushed for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Marcus Lindsay rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
The offensive line made the rushing attack happen, after being pushed around in the first two games of the season.
On defense, Whitmire forced six turnovers, five interceptions.
The Wolverines have a little extra time to savor their homecoming win. The bye week will give WHS time to heal and prepare for its next game at Gilbert on Sept. 19.
Whitmire needs to be well prepared for the 2A Indians, who beat Pelion 47-21 last week. Gilbert also has a 41-20 win over Great Falls. They play at Chapin on Friday.
