PACOLET - George J. Moss, 87, of 3171 Jerusalem Road, Pacolet, widower of Molly Scates Moss, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Brookview Health Care in Gaffney.
Mr. Moss was born in Cherokee County Nov. 18, 1922, a son of the late John Landrum Moss and Hassie Patterson Moss. He retired from Milliken & Co.-Lockhart Plant and was of the Baptist faith. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are four daughters, Joyce Mills and Doris Dover, both of Gaffney, Virginia Moss of Blackburg and Cheryl Moss of Pacolet; two sons, James E. Moss of the home and Lewis Moss of Union; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Mr. Moss was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Moss, and two brothers, Clyde Ogle and Edward Moss.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at Rehobeth Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Ricky Cook.
Grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 this evening, Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
