A Union man is accused of selling drugs to an informant with the public safety department.

Jarvis S. Cunningham, 19, of 176 Sedgefield Drive, was charged Wednesday with distribution of marijuana and distribution of marijuana within one-half mile of a school or park.

Arrest warrants signed by Investigator Mickey Parker said Cunningham sold a quantity of marijuana to an informant on Brockman Heights on May 7. The sale occurred near Foster Park Elementary School.

Woman arrested

Belinda Ruth Worthy, 37, of 100 Lipsey St., was charged Wednesday by the public safety department with drawing in affray and two counts of assault and battery.

Arrest warrants signed by Officer Terry Davis said Ms. Worthy drew a knife, chased Terricka Brannon out of her residence; threw a spray bottle and hit Ms. Brannon in the face and also threw a freeze pop and hit Betty Sims in the face.

Cars damaged, broke in

Also on Wednesday, vehicles were vandalized on Louise Street.

At 205 Louise St., a woman told Officer Mark Gregory she came out and discovered she had two flat tires. A friend put air in the tires and it was found that both tires had been intentionally cut.

At 105 Louise St., a man told Gregory someone cut the tire on the company truck he was driving. While Gregory was talking to this man, another neighbor from 200 Louise St. came driving by and her car also had a flat tire. The man had an air compressor on the back of his truck. He used it to put air in the woman's tire and Gregory could see there was a gash in the top of the sidewall.

At 200 Springdale Drive, a man reported to Officer Al Griffin that his car had been broken into. He said someone went in the glove box and ash tray and took change, a portable CD player and a carton of cigarettes. The suspect also rambled through a Jeep in the driveway but nothing was thought to be missing.

Man arrested

John Pat Brown III, 44, of 110 Halden Drive, was charged Tuesday by the Union County Sheriff's Office with failure to stop for a blue light and possession of marijuana. A report said Lt. John Sherfield with the sheriff's office and Investigator Mickey Parker saw Brown on a moped leaving Johnson Road and going onto Lovers Lane Road. As he did, Brown did not yield for traffic. The officers attempted to stop him and activated the blue light on their patrol car, but Brown speeded up. The officers saw Brown pull a bag from his pocket containing marijuana and Brown began to eat the marijuana as he fled.

Officers stopped the moped near Wildlife Drive. Brown was arrested and taken to the emergency room at Wallace Thomson Hospital for treatment. The report said he tested positive for marijuana.

Bubble gum machines stolen

At Snow White Laundry on 225 North Duncan By-Pass, someone stole three bubble gum machines, according to a report filed Wednesday. The victim told Cpl. Jeff Wright the machines are worth $300.

Car stolen

A man told Sgt. Jimmy Johnson Wednesday that someone stole his 1992 Lincoln Town Car. The victim said he left the car on a piece of rental property where relatives lived on 342 Oakland Road about two months ago. He came back from New York and the car is gone. It is worth around $2,000.

At 316 Railroad St., a woman told Deputy Kevin Smith Wednesday that someone took $1,000 worth of items from her house, including winter clothes, a motorized wheelchair and a white bed with gold trim.

Hindering police

Fredrick Devon Barrett, 26, of 129 Barrett Drive, Union, was charged Wednesday by the sheriff's office with hindering police.

A report said Deputy Kevin Smith and Deputy Tommy Cudd went to Lipsey Street to attempt to serve a Family Court bench warrant on Vernon Byrd. Barrett came out of the residence, told deputies his name was Robert Smith and said Byrd was not in the apartment. Deputies determined Barrett was not telling the truth. Smith attempted to arrest Barrett and Barrett jerked away and ran. He was caught after a short foot chase.
