Carrie Burns Brown, N.W.S., has studied art extensively and has painted, exhibited and conducted classes from South Carolina to Greece for 30 years. She has taught at Springmaid Beach since 1985. Her watermedia workshops, demo-lectures and juroring of exhibitions takes her all over the United States and Canada. Her innovative works are included in many corporate and private collections as well as many publications. Her DVD “Watermedia Collage” further describes her art.
Her collages, better described as “land shapes,” reflect her sense of color and design.
“As my art evolved I moved away from pure, transparent watercolor and into collage and acrylics,” she said. “My art became more abstract as I worked with collage and different heavy papers.”
The workshop, for intermediate and advanced artists, will be held Sept. 15-19. The first two days of the workshop will focus on color and design using fluid acrylic paint as a multi-layered transparent opaque water medium which can be applied to canvas or paper. Emphasis will shift to collage and the interaction of collage with acrylic paint. There will also be an introduction to collage transfers and collage techniques tailored to the development of the students.
Ms. Brown will also judge the arts council's annual juried art show, to be held Sept. 18-Oct. 16 at USC-Union. The show will open with a reception at USC-Union on Thursday, Sept. 18.
Arts council vice president Bennie Giles has been working very hard on the event, assisted by local artist Jackie Weber.
