God lovingly embraced Velver (Buitt) Gregory of 1208 N. Pinckney St., Union, on Monday, July 7, 2008.

The son of the late Arthur and Norrie Good Gregory, he was retired from the U.S. Southern Region #8 Tyger Ranger District, U.S. Forest Service where he was a devoted employee. He was treasurer of the Pacolet River Baptist Association, an honorary member of the South Carolina Sheriff's Association, and loyal member of the Bright Star Chapter #18 Holy Royal Arch Mason (PHA).

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son, James Gregory and daughter-in-law, Lillie Walker Gregory of Bloomfield, Conn.; his daughter, Forestine Gregory of Williamsburg, Va.; daughter-in-law, Hettie Bell (Kelly) Gregory of Gaffney; four step-daughters, Louise (Charles) Gore, Asalee Byrd and Lozbelle (Jerry) Foster, all of South Carolina, and Reather Rice (Perry) of New Jersey; two sisters, Asalee Alverson and Cevera Lipsey of Jonesville; a brother, Malvin Gregory of Jonesville; six grandchildren, Veta M. Gregory-Rodriguez, Shirley R. Gregory, Alonzo T. Gregory, all of Hartford, Conn., Linda J. Gregory, Robert C. Gregory, of Gaffney; Adrain M. (Sharon) Gregory of Chesapeake, Va., 13 great-grandchildren, Adolphus Lemons-Gregory, Edwin D. Rodriguez, Trevor J. Gregory, Shawn Chaney, Alonzo T. Gregory Jr., Rashadda E. Gregory, Laveta R. Rodriguez, Tadnesha U. Gregory, all of Hartford, Conn., and Adrienne Gregory, Trisha Gregory, Latoya Robbs, Brittany Gregory and Robert C. Gregory Jr., all of Gaffney; one great-great grandson, Trevor J. Gregory Jr. of Hartford, Conn.; three devoted nieces, Lizzy Smith, Ruby Pollard and Rita McKinney; two very special friends, Wallace and Elaine Means; a devoted care taker, Robert Lee Rice; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.

Special thanks are given to St. Paul Adult Day Care.

Viewing will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, 406 Pea Ridge Highway, with services beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 1208 N. Pinckney St., Union.

Masonie Rites will be conducted at 6 p.m. today at 6 p.m. at Gibson & Brown Funeral Home Chapel.

The Gibson & Brown Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Papa,

Your anniversary is coming up soon and boy I can't believe will be 2yrs already. I miss you so much and think of you often, I hear your voice speaking to me all of the time and when I'm in Union at the house your present is all around me. How I wish I could see you sitting in your favorite chair and now I hope that you finally have the chance to see Aunt Tine. I love you with all of my heart and soul!
