Disagreement over beer leads to violence

A Union woman is accused of cutting another woman with a knife after the two got into a disagreement about sharing a beer.

Kimberly Ann Jennings, 44, of 141 Oak Grove Road, Union, was charged Tuesday with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

A report said Sgt. Kevin Powers was called to 121 Bishop Place around 8:30 p.m. after an assault was reported. Melissa McFalls, 37, said she and Ms. Jennings got into a verbal altercation about sharing a beer and Ms. Jennings pulled out a straight blade knife and cut her on her left hand, causing a severe laceration.

Ms. McFalls was transported to Wallace Thomson Hospital by Union County EMS.

Ms. Jennings was arrested at 308 Hicks St. minutes after the incident.

There were witnesses to the incident, one who told Powers he had to pull Ms. Jennings off Ms. McFalls.

Ms. Jennings is being held in the Union County Jail. Bond had not been set for her this morning.

Drug arrest

Kerry Devon Brown, 31, of 479 Old Union Road was charged Tuesday with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within one-half mile of a school and having unsafe tires.

A report said Deputy Kevin Smith was notified by Cpl. Dean Gibson that Gibson was behind Brown on Highway 49. Gibson knew Smith had a Family Court bench warrant for Brown.

Gibson then told Smith he was stopping Brown's car near Monarch Mill.

Smith arrived and saw that Gibson was asking Brown to step out of the vehicle. Smith searched Brown for weapons and found in Brown's right front pocket numerous white rock like substances believed to be crack cocaine.

More crack was found in a McDonald's paper bag in the front seat.

Deputies noted that Brown also had slick tires on his green Chevrolet Caprice.

Brown was arrested within one-half mile of Monarch Elementary School.

Brown is being held in the Union County Jail on $40,000 surety bond.

Vehicle break-ins

In the parking lot of St. Paul Baptist Church on 308 Wallace St., someone broke into three vehicles. Dr. A.L. Brackett told Officer Leon Lancaster with the public safety department Tuesday that someone broke out the ignition switch on a 1983 Dodge van, a 1988 Lincoln and a 1984 Ford and rambled through the vehicles. Change was stolen from the Ford.

Damage was estimated at $600.

Thefts

On 309 East South St., someone took a 10 by 10 dog fence. The victim told Officer Rusty Young he was gone about three hours Tuesday and when he came back the fence was gone. It is worth $250.

Also on Tuesday, a victim on 245 Mudbridge Road told Deputy Wendy Childers that someone took a large wooden spool containing aluminum wire from his back yard. This is worth around $150.
