A Union man was killed Wednesday night in a single-vehicle accident not far from his home.

According to a Union Public Safety Department report, Joseph Michael Hulon, 53, of 524 Lakeview Heights died at the scene of the wreck, which occurred around 11 p.m. on the Seigler Road.

Hulon was driving a 1999 Dodge truck when he failed to follow a right-hand curve in the roadway. The vehicle went into the left-hand ditch and struck two paper boxes and three driveways. The report said it appeared he over-corrected, the truck went sideways and overturned. Hulon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected.

The report said Hulon's speed was estimated at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Union County Coroner William Holcombe said Hulon died from closed head injuries.

Hulon is the fifth person to die in a wreck on Union County roads in 2008.
