Someone stole around $5,000 worth of copper, tools and other items from River Chase Golf Club.

Gregg Kransinski, owner of the club on 459 Fairwood Boulevard, told Deputy Roger Hill that sometime between May 1 and Wednesday, someone entered a building where maintenance equipment is stored. Missing items include copper tubing in five-foot sections, an electrical water pump worth $1,500 and weighing around 500 pounds, around 20 rotary blades for a reel mower used to cut fairways and greens which were worth around $150 each, an anvil weighing around 300 pounds, a 20-foot aluminum ladder and a 10-foot jon boat.

The case has been turned over to the investigative division of the sheriff's office.

Other thefts

On 124 Wildlife Drive, a Department of Natural Resources employee told Cpl. Jeff Wright with the sheriff's office that someone stole the tailgate from his state-issued vehicle. The tailgate is green and was taken from a 206 Ford F-150 XL Triton four-wheel-drive. The man said he noticed the tailgate was gone Monday but did not report it until Tuesday after checking with others at work.

Also on Tuesday, a man on 254 Farrow Road, Jonesville, reported to Deputy Thom McAbee that someone took a Suzuki 85 dirt bike from his property.

The victim said he heard a vehicle door shut, peeked out a window and saw a car driving off from a building located behind the house. He went out and discovered the bike was gone. He said he was repairing the bike for an acquaintance. The bike is worth $2,000.

On 117 Rice Ave., Charlie's Auto Sales, someone stole a battery charger. The victim told Officer Randy Canupp with the public safety department that he had plugged the charger to a car and when he came back, it was gone. The Black & Decker charger is worth $50.

A second battery charger was reported stolen from 410 South Pinckney St. The victim told Cpl. Scott Farr with public safety that someone stole the charger from a utility trailer, onto which it had been mounted. The victim said she noticed the charger was missing a week ago, but was too busy to report it. It is worth $200.

On 303 Lawson Ave., a man told Sgt. Kevin Powers with the public safety department Wednesday that someone took items from a house he is remodeling. Missing are a Craftsman drill, a Black & Decker sander and five gallons of paint. These are worth $180

Failure to register

Eric Maurice Salter, 32, of 197 Sims Drive, Union, was charged Wednesday by the sheriff's office with failure to register as a sex offender.

A report by Lt. Robbie Hines said that on May 6, Salter was released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. In accordance with state law, he was to report to the sheriff's office within one business day to register. As of May 13, he had not registered and a warrant was signed for his arrest.
