caught after chase

Staff Writer

City and county officers working together quickly apprehended a 16-year-old boy accused of stealing a video gaming system from Buffalo Pawn & Gun Friday.

Officers were notified shortly after 5 p.m. that a shoplifting had occurred at the pawn shop on 933 Main St., Buffalo. They were told that the suspect had left in a small teal-colored car headed toward Union.

Investigator Mickey Parker with the Union Public Safety Department stopped the car on Rice Avenue. The boy jumped out and fled on foot, leaving three others in the vehicle. Parker and his police dog, Prado, chased the boy and caught him.

Deputy Roger Hill and Lt. Robbie Hines took the boy back to Buffalo Pawn and spoke with an employee. She said she walked into the shop and noticed the boy with both hands under his shirt leaving the shop. It appeared he had something under his shirt, so, she watched him. The boy, whom she did not know, opened the right rear door of her car and put something under the passenger seat. She asked the boy what he was doing in her car and he reached under the seat and pulled out a Play Station II and controller. She confronted the boy about taking the Play Station and he ran.

He got into a vehicle with three other boys and left.

For this incident, the boy was charged with shoplifting and car breaking.

Later, a relative of the boy came to the sheriff's office and told Hill that the boy had taken items from her home, including a paint ball mask, a paint ball gun, a duffel bag, an Hitachie hybrid camcorder DVD and $38 in cash. Altogether, the stolen items are worth $1,718 Hines took a statement from the boy. All of the items except the cash were recovered. The boy was charged with second-degree burglary.
