One arrest has been made in a series of carwash break-ins reported in the last few weeks.
Anthony Theodore Acanfora, 17, of 315 West Henrietta St. was charged Thursday by the Union Public Safety Department with second-degree burglary and petit larceny. Acanfora's arrest warrant, signed by Capt. Freddie Gault, said that on April 27 he broke into Nixon Center Car Wash on 710 South Duncan By-Pass and took $959 from two change machines.
Chief Sam White said an investigation is continuing into the break-ins and officers haven't determined if Acanfora is responsible for any of the other break-ins or if he acted alone.
Detectives with the sheriff's office also are continuing their investigation.
Someone broke into A&O Carwash on 300 North Pinckney St. on April 18 and April 29.
On April 23, Classic Car Wash on 1436 Lockhart Highway was broken into.
Teen arrested
Stephan Lee Hopkins, 18, of 213 May St., was charged Sunday with drawing in affray.
On April 13, a woman told Sgt. Kevin Powers that she, her sister and friend were walking on Thomas Street when a man she knew as "Lee" came out from behind a tree, called her a "Narc," held a knife to her throat and told her he would kill her. He then left walking towards Lawson Avenue.
Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect
The victim later picked Hopkins out of a photo lineup.
