CALHOUN FALLS - William G. Yon, Sr., 80, formerly of Calhoun Falls, widower of Bessie Louise Hood Yon, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 in Anderson.

Born in Anderson County, Mr. Yon was the son of the late Nathaniel Yon, Sr. and Lula Belle Addison Yon. He was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Calhoun Falls, where he served as Deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher. He was retired from Burlington Industries as a supervisor in the spinning department, where he worked 38 years.

Surviving are two sons, the Rev. William G. Yon, Jr. and his wife Jennie of Whitmire, and James Stephen Yon of Six Mile; two daughters, Rebecca Hughes and husband Bobby of Abbeville and Gloria Willoughby of Calhoun Falls; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah Yon Strawhorne of Hodges.

In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Nikki Willoughby; grandson, Stephen James Yon Jr.; and brothers, Nathaniel Yon Jr. and Sam Yon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday May 1, at Faith Harvest Fellowship in Calhoun Falls with the Rev. Michael Ford and the Rev. William G. Yon, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 this evening, Wednesday, April 30, at the funeral home.
