comes alive

Jefferson Davis returned to the Cross Keys House this weekend as part of an historical re-enactment. Davis (Charles Barreras) rode up to the house, accompanied by his cabinet and a military escort, reminiscent of the lunch stop he made during his flight from Richmond in April of 1864. He was greeted by Mrs. Warren Davis (Packy Whitener), left, who owned the house during the Civil War. The house and grounds were open Saturday and Sunday. The States Rights Gist Camp of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans held an encampment and participated in maneuvers. (Pete Cochran/Times)
