Two Union men received prison sentences for drug violations Wednesday as a nearly two-week session of General Sessions Court was concluded.
Kenneth Porter, 22, of 340 Mt. Joy Church Road pleaded guilty to four counts of distribution of crack cocaine. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
Porter initially was arrested on Dec. 13, 2006 by the Union Public Safety Department. Arrest warrants said he sold a quantity of crack to an undercover operative on West Henrietta Street.
While out on bond, Porter was arrested again by the public safety department on Feb. 8, 2008 and again accused of selling to informants.
Also on Wednesday Lewis Loyd, 20, of 209 East Henrietta St., pleaded guilty to distribution of crack cocaine. A warrant said he sold crack to an operative on West Henrietta Street on Nov. 14. He was sentenced to a year in prison.
General Sessions or Criminal Court began in Union County on March 31. The extra week was granted by Court Administration at the request of 16th Circuit Solicitor Kevin Brackett to help fill the schedule of a newly appointed judge and to help move some cases from the Union County docket.
Deputy Solicitor John Anthony said the court terms went well and the time was used wisely.
“I think with the extra week being added it made it possible to dispose of a number of cases,” Anthony he said.
General Sessions Court will convene again in Union County on May 5.
