A Jonesville man is accused of selling drugs to an undercover operative and then fleeing from officers trying to arrest him.
Jamie Orian Bell, 20, of 1612 Pea Ridge Highway, was charged Saturday by the Union County Sheriff's Office with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine within one-half mile of a school or park, resisting arrest, driving under suspension and leaving a vehicle unattended.
A report said Lt. John Sherfield provided an operative with $30 and sent the operative to the South Herndon Street area to attempt to purchase a quantity of crack cocaine. Bell drove up and the operative got into the vehicle with him and bought crack. The sale occurred within one-half mile of City Park.
A short time later, Sherfield saw Bell driving a gray Chevy Caprice on North Pinckney Street and knew his license was suspended. Sherfield attempted to stop Gray's vehicle near Union Oil Mill but Bell continued on and made a right turn onto Walker Heights where he stopped. He and a still unidentified passenger got out and ran. Officers pursued them on foot. They saw Bell drop a plastic bag which contained several pieces of crack cocaine. It was later retrieved.
Bell was taken into custody by Sgt. Dee Haney and Deputy Roxie Belue. While Bell was being searched, a portion of the money from the drug sale was recovered. It was seized, along with an additional $90.
The report said no charges are pending against the man who jumped out and fled with Bell.
