GIRLS SOCCER

Gaffney defeated Union County's varsity girls' soccer team 5-0 on Monday in a scrimmage.

Gaffney scored two goals in the first half and three in the second. The Lady Indians had 16 shots on goal, while UCHS had none.

“Gaffney outplayed the Lady Jackets offensively and defensively,” said UCHS coach Terry Drum. “Their team speed and game experience made a big difference.

“Defensively, we were beaten down the field for several somewhat easy scoring situations. With a few tweaks of personnel, we hope to solve this problem.

“Offensively, we never really got on track. Inexperience seemed to be the culprit. Hopefully with several adjustments this can be fixed.”

Drum said his team gave a good effort, but made too many mistakes in passing and field positioning.

“I'm confident we will grow and get better as the year progresses,” he said.

Meredith Walker had 11 saves for the Jackets.
