World War II veteran
BUFFALO - Henry Clinton (Clint) Palmer, 87, of Buffalo, widower of Patricia Ann Ricketts Palmer, died Feb. 23, 2008 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Palmer was born September 19, 1920 in Central, a son of the late Icy and Lee Palmer. He was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-1945. He was in the 584th Squadron, (B-26 Marauders), of the 394th Bomber Group in the Ninth Air Force. Prior to his deployment to England, his group was stationed at McDill Army Air Base in Tampa, Fla., and at Kellogg Field in Battle Creek, Mich, where he met his wife. Clint served in the European Theater of Operations, and his bomber group was the first to be based in Continental Europe following the D-Day invasion at Normandy in 1944. His air field in Belgium was in the axis of the German Army's advance during the Battle of the Bulge. Clint had three brothers who also served in the war making his mother a “Four Star Mother.”
He was a member of Saint Paul of the Apostle Catholic Church in Spartanburg and a member of several organizations, among which were the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Clemson, Carolina, Panthers and Atlanta Braves fan. He enjoyed discussing history and politics during the frequent visits to his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, Pam McMillian and Kim Knox of Buffalo; four sons, Mike Palmer of Sacramento, Calif., Dan Palmer and Mark Palmer of York, and Kevin Palmer of Whitmire; a sister, Betty Watkins of Clemson; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Home on the Duncan By Pass Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, the American Legion and the American Diabetes Association
