GAFFNEY - William "Bill" Dawkins Sr., husband of Trudy Glenn Dawkins, of 100 Ashley St., Gaffney, passed away Feb. 23, 2008 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital.

A native of Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Bee Dawkins and Julia Littlejohn Dawkins. He was a member and deacon of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, an Army veteran, and was retired from Boren Clay Brickyard after 35 years. He was a member of Mount View Masonic Lodge #301.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, William Dawkins Jr. of Boiling Springs, Jerrod Dawkins of the home, and Sherman Dawkins of McCormick; six daughters, Dr. Annie R. Byrd of Monroe, Conn., Frances Ashe of Greer; Lind Hardy and Naomi "Mot" Wilson both of Gaffney, and Kimberly Thomas and Tonya Thomas, both of Spartanburg; two brothers, Fred Dawkins of Washington, D.C. and Stan Dawkins of Concord, N.C.; two sisters, Lois Dawkins of Gaffney and Lenora Camp of Highpoint; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 4760 Union Highway, Gaffney. The Rev. Dr. A.L. Brackett will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.

Viewing will be held at Fosters Funeral Home, 312 N. Petty St., Gaffney, on Wednesday beginning at 2 pm. The family will receive friends at the home.
