Four people have been arrested on drug charges in cases made by deputies with the Union County Sheriff's Office
- Stanton Martail Jeter, 21, of 203 Lawson Ave., Union, was charged Friday with distribution of crack and distribution of crack within one-half mile of a school.
A report said Lt. John Sherfield and Lt. David Kitchens provided an operative with money. On Jan. 3, the operative met with Jeter in the parking lot of Dixie Curb Market on 503 South Church St. and purchased $20 worth of crack. The sale occurred within one-half mile of Excelsior Middle School.
- Robbie Todd Leonard, 47, of 104 Mill Ave., Union, was charged Sunday with purchasing marijuana and purchasing marijuana within one-half mile of a park.
A report said Sherfield provided an operative with a small amount of marijuana to attempt to sell to Leonard. The operative met Leonard in the parking lot of CVS on South Boyce Street and sold him marijuana.
Sherfield, Sgt. Dee Haney and Cpl. Scott Ruby then took Leonard into custody and the marijuana was recovered from his vehicle. The sale took place near City Park.
- George Mitchell Horton, 17, of 683 Rice Avenue Extension and Anne Marie Crawford, 32, of 2710 Jerusalem Road, Pacolet, both were charged Friday with distribution of a Schedule II narcotic.
According to a report, Sherfield, Ruby and Kitchens provided money to an informant. The informant drove to the West Towne Plaza Shopping Center parking lot, which officers had under surveillance.
Horton and Ms. Crawford arrived. The informant gave Ms. Crawford $120 and she gave him 11 pills believed to be morphine. Officers later stopped Ms. Crawford and Horton and she had the buy money in her hand.
Officer assaulted
An inmate at the Union County Jail is accused of assaulting an officer.
Bruce Lee Worthy, 29, of 136 Lofton Drive, was charged Friday by the sheriff's office with assault and battery on a correctional officer.
A report by Lt. Jeff Lawson, jail administrator, said the officer was working with a plumber in a cell. The plumber needed to go outside and get a part. The officer was attempting to leave the cell door and Worthy would not move out of the way. The officer pushed Worthy back and Worthy struck the officer in the mouth. A struggle took place and Worthy was quickly taken under control by other officers, aided by inmates.
Worthy has been held in the jail since Dec. 29 on one count of petit larceny and seven counts of forgery.
Vandalism
Someone spray-painted an area of the skateboard park at the South Hills Softball Complex on 387 Hawthorne Road, causing around $100 damage.
Ruby and Officer James Wicks were on patrol in the complex Saturday and noticed painted graffiti. They had patrolled the park the day before and noticed no damage. Officers spoke with ball players nearby and they said they remembered seeing a dark-colored Honda at the park 20 to 30 minutes before the arrival of officers.
