A new drag-racing facility is coming to Union County.
A press conference will be held tonight at 7 in the County Annex building at the corner of East Main and South Church streets. Mike Petrie, president of the Union County Motorsports Association, said he could not furnish any details but noted that the announcement could have a positive impact on the future economic development of Union County.
“We feel this facility could not only increase tourism in Union County but also impact other aspects of the local economy,” he said.
Motorsports is a large presence in Union County with four existing racing facilities. The county is also home to the Team Aruba drag racing team.
This is the second time in recent years that a drag-racing facility has been attempted in the county. Broad River Dragway was under construction a couple of years ago in the Santuck area until the developers pulled out of the project.
