DAR Good Citizens chosen

Jenna D. White, a Union County High School senior, and Jacob B. Allen, a Union Christian Day School senior, are the 2007 DAR Good Citizens, chosen by the Fairforest Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The requirements for the award are based upon the five qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism.

Miss White is the daughter of Paul and Lisa White. Her extra-curricular activities include the National Honor Society, of which she has served as an officer; the National Technical Honor Society; the Spanish Club, of which she has served as president; the FBLA, of which she has served as treasurer; Sociedad Honoria Hispanica, of which she has served as president; Interact; First Priority; National Junior Beta Club; and the Band.

In the JROTC, she has served as Battalion Commander, Jedi Knight Commander, Academic Team Leader, Military Ball Committee president, JCLC graduate, drill team and color guard.

In the community, she has been a volunteer with Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Community Changes, the Salvation Army, the Union County Veterans Day Parade Planning Committee, Earth Day campus cleanup, Tour of Homes, and she has been a candy striper at Wallace Thomson Hospital

Miss White is a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, the International Missions team (Morelia, Mexico), sings in the choir, volunteers with Vacation Bible School, is a youth volunteer at Ellen Sagar Nursing Home from the church and is a church nursery worker.

She is a Rotary Scholar, has made the A Honor Roll, is a Palmetto Girls State graduate, was a state representative for the George C. Marshall Symposium, was named Miss Congeniality in the Miss Union County High School pageant, was a district winner in the FBLA competition, is a certified Microsoft Office Specialist, an Erskine Fellow and a Lander Fellow.

Allen is the son of Barry and Richelle Allen. He has served as vice president of the Beta Club, treasurer of the student body, was a Rotary Scholar, a USC-Union Junior Fellow and won the Governor's Citizenship Award.

He has served as captain of the basketball team, lettered in basketball and volleyball, played baseball and participated in archery.

He is a percussionist in the Union Christian Day School marching and concert bands, was a uniform governor and is bass guitarist for the pep band.

He volunteers with the 218th Family Readiness Group- helping with child care during group meetings for families of soldiers deployed to Afghanistan. He is a volunteer for Spartanburg Adult Learning Center, and the Old Edgefield District Genealogical Society.

He is a Boy Scout, where he has achieved star rank, has participated in 4-H cow judging, and works for the Spartanburg County Historical Society as a tour guide at Walnut Grove Plantation and the Historic Price House.

At his church, he is a member of the youth group.

Allen also is a lifeguard and plans to attend Erskine's Honor College, major in history and eventually become a park ranger.
