UCHS beats Greer

Union County's varsity boys' basketball team defeated Greer 77-66 on Tuesday.

The victory assures Union County (15-8, 8-5) a home playoff game.

Dwight Brannon led UCHS with 26 points, including a 3-pointer, and Devin Booker added 22, including a fan-pleasing windmill dunk late.

Brandon Stapleton scored nine points, Darrion Booker had eight, Marucs Whitener had seven, Daniel Harmon and Joe Smith each had two. UCHS had 23 field goals and was 22-of-33 from the foul line.

Chris Dean and Nick Rubio each had 17 points to lead Greer, Chandler Hash added 13 and Desmond Parks had 12. Greer (13-10, 7-6) had 23 field goals and was 18-of-20 from the foul line, with two 3-pointers.

LADY YELLOW JACKETS

Greer defeated Union County's varsity girls' basketball team 75-37 on Tuesday.

Courtney Williams scored 21 points and Leanna Craft added 16 for Greer (13-10, 8-5). Greer led 40-19 at halftime and never looked back.

Britni Ward led UCHS (5-15, 2-11) with 14 points.

Both Union County basketball teams finish the regular season at Clinton on Thursday.

SIMS TIGERS

ROEBUCK - Dawkins defeated Sims' boys' basketball team 58-35 in the second round of the Peachtree Tournament on Tuesday.

Curtis Garrett led the Tigers with eight points, Kadarius Means scored seven, Amtravlis Jones and Devotae Glenn each added six, Terence Whitener had three, Victor Ruth and Jay Tucker added two, while Brett Smith had one.

Sims was down 20-15 at halftime to undefeated Dawkins, but in the second half nothing went their way.

"Dawkins came out and pushed us, but we did not react,” said coach Mitchell Moss.

“This year was great. I know we did not win the championship like we wanted, but these guys fought and played hard from day one. For the first time in five years basketball was fun for me again. I learned just as much from these guys as they learned from me.

“I would like to thank all the fans that supported us the entire year and hopefully the 8th-graders on the team will go on to JV and varsity and have successful careers.

Jones and Glenn made the Peachtree All-Conference Team.

WHITMIRE WOLVERINES

LANDRUM - Whitmire's varsity boys' basketball team fell, 87-46, to Landrum on Tuesday.

Brandon Quarles led the Cardinals (14-8, 5-4) with 31 points, Alex Wilson added 19, Jacob Hatchette and Jake McClure each had 10. Quarles scored his 1,000th career-point.

Desmond Harp led the Wolverines (6-15, 3-6) with 14 points, Alan Glenn and David Reed each had eight, Joseph Brown had seven, Blake Chick had four, LaMarcus Lindsay had three and PJ Davis had two.

LADY WOLVERINES

LANDRUM - Whitmire's varsity girls' basketball team defeated Landrum 50-47 on Tuesday.

The Lady Wolverines (14-4, 5-2) are second in Region II-A and fifth in the state.

Kim Geyer led Whitmire with 20 points and 17 rebounds. Jocelyn Hopp added 10 points, six steals, two assists and seven rebounds.

Katie Mandau scored nine points, Jennifer Brown and Elaina Alcocer each had four and Lydie McDaniel had three. Brittany Duncan had four blocks. Alcocer had two assists.

Carolyn Cann led Landrum (13-9, 6-4) with 19 points.

Both Whitmire basketball teams host Christ Church on Thursday - the final game of the regular season.

UNION CHRISTIAN DAY

Heritage defeated both Union Christian Day boys and girls basketball teams on Tuesday in non-conference action.

The boys' team finishes the season at 4-7. The girls' team (8-3) hosts Carolina on Thursday in the first round of the playoffs.
