Arthur L. Gregory, husband of Mary Lou Lawhon Gregory, entered into his life of eternity, Feb. 2, 2008 at the age of 85 from his home after a brief illness.
Mr. Gregory was born Feb. 15, 1922, the proud son of the late Will and Hilda Cora Saunders Gregory of Union. Eighteen years later he left home proudly and courageously to serve his great country as a military soldier. In 1960, he retired with 20 years of service with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and supported and actively served many organizations including Union Masonic Lodge #75, Little Rock Scottish Rite Consistatory, SCIMITAR Temple of Shriners, American Legion Post # 22, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. As a member of the Union Lion's Club, 1990-2008, he served as District Governor Multiple District 32-D, South Carolina Lions, 1996-1997, Past District Governor Lions International for Life. He was a genuine certified card carrying member of POAB, Priesthood of All Believers. He was very proud to have the opportunity to be a Member of Central Carolina Walk to Emmaus’ 95 Table of Mark, Feb. 10-13, 2005.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 17 years are a daughter, Brooke Lenora Gregory Lewis and son-in-law, Damon, of Tulsa, Okla., and their two sons, Ashur and Aiden; a son, Mark Carlton Gregory; and a daughter, Gale Gregory McClain. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Rebecca Lawhon Nagaishi and husband Yoshi, Kaye Lawhon Allen and husband Gary, and Robert Preston Lawhon and wife Vanessa. Together the couple shared 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Judson and Gene Gregory; and a sister, Willie Mae Gregory Ashford, all of Union. He was predeceased by a sister, Altie Bell McCoy.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008 at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Grace Cemetery with military honors.
Active pallbearers will be nephews William Carl Colson and Terry Judson Gregory, and friends Dewey Adams, James Freeman, Jimmy Greer and Johnny Sinclair.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Union Lions Club and the David Clyburn Sunday School Class of Grace United Methodist Church who are asked sit in a group.

The family will receive friends at Holcombe Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Monday, Feb. 4, 2008.
