Union man arrested on drug charge

A Union man is accused of selling crack cocaine to an undercover operative with the Union Public Safety Department.

Robert Lee Gilliam, 60, of 132 Sims Drive, was charged Sunday with distribution of crack and distribution of crack within one-half mile of a school or park.

Arrest warrants signed by Investigator Mickey Parker said Gilliam sold crack to an operative on Dec. 26 on South Church Street, which is near Excelsior Middle School.

Wreck victim charged

A Union man who was seriously injured in a wreck in 2007 faces a drug charge.

Donovan Lee Robinson, 20, of 101 Cornwell St. was charged Sunday by the public safety department with possession of marijuana other than first offense. An arrest warrant signed by Sgt. Larry Robinson said a bag of marijuana was found at Robinson's feet while he was trapped inside a wrecked vehicle on Brockman Heights on June 17. Robinson had to be extricated by Union County EMS and the Union County Rescue Squad and was flown by helicopter to the hospital.

Chief Sam White said officers waited to charge Robinson because he has been under the care of a doctor.

The driver of the car, Joseph Demetrius Jennings, 24, of 301 Lakeside Drive, was charged with felony driving under the influence, possession of marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm. His case has not yet come to court.

Dog attack

Public safety officers are looking for the owner of a pit bull that attacked a woman on South Mountain Street Saturday.

A report said Sgt. Randy Canupp found the victim, who is 61, bleeding from her right hand and wrist area. Her shirt was torn and her back was scratched. He saw the dog in the yard. A witness told Canupp the dog attacked the victim while she was getting out of her car.

Union County EMS was called and the victim was treated at Wallace Thomson Hospital.

Canupp and Sgt. David Brewington caught the dog and placed it a the county shelter.

Gutters, siding stolen

Sheriff's deputies are investigating the theft of $300 worth of aluminum gutters and siding from 939 Main St., Buffalo, Saturday.

The victim told Cpl. Scott Ruby and Deputy Thom McAbee that a tenant saw two white men in a burgundy Jeep Cherokee load the items up and leave with them, traveling toward Union.

County, city and highway patrol units searched for the suspects but couldn't locate them.

Child abuse arrest

A second arrest has been made in a case of suspected child abuse.

Lashawn Franklin Brannon, 20, of 254 Mt. Joy Church Road, Jonesville, was charged Friday by the sheriff's office with unlawful neglect by a legal custodian.

A report said the victim in the case, who is 2, had bruises all over his body.

Erin Michelle Miller, 19, of 254 Pea Ridge Highway, Jonesville, was arrested Tuesday in the case and faces the same charge.
