WHITMIRE - The Lady Wolverines varsity basketball team defeated Southside Christian 51-13 on Tuesday night.

Kim Geyer led Whitmire with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Jocelyn Hopp had 12 points, 12 steals and five assists.

“Defense was excellent,” said coach Kim Shelton. “Kim Geyer, who has been in a slump, came out swinging.

“Jocelyn Hopp has been pretty consistent all year and maintained her performance.

“Brittany Duncan and Elaina Alcocer were very instrumental in keeping the tempo of the game steady. Those two young ladies are patient are calm under pressure.

“Heather Hawkins, a senior forward, only had four points, but her defense made a world of difference. She is very athletic-long and lean. She put pressure on the ball, causing several turnovers.

“Jennifer Brown, Alicia Hall and Katie Mandau also gave great effort. Jennifer and Katie were aggressive on the boards and Alicia caused a few turnovers.

“Defense was key to our victory - no bones about it. Overall, we are really pleased with our performance. This win set the tone for region play.”
