Whitmire defeats Mid-Carolina

NEWBERRY - Whitmire's varsity boys' basketball team defeated county-rival Mid-Carolina 56-44 on Thursday at the Newberry Christmas Tournament.

Whitmire led most all the way, with an 11-point advantage at halftime. The Wolverines led by as many as 17 in the second half.

Mid-Carolina cut the lead to 42-40 with 4:20 to play after a 7-0 run. But Whitmire answered with a 16-0 run to put the game away.

David Reed and Desmond Harp each led WHS with 16 points. They combined to score 18 of the team's 20 fourth quarter points. Harp hit 7-of-9 from the free throw line.

Michael Ruff scored eight points, Stan Whitmire and Jarrell Ruff-Smalls finished with five each. Lamarcus Lindsay had four, but played well running the offense and Alan Michael Glenn had two.

For the Rebels (5-4), Jordan Harmon led with 13 points, Krishawn Holley and Hubert Wicker each had seven.

Whitmire (1-7) will play Chapin at 6 tonight, as the tournament continues.
