FLORENCE - A memorial service for Martha Eugenia "Gene" MacLeod Rowan, widow of John E. "Jack" Rowan, will be held at a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 in the Chapel of Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina. The family suggest memorials to Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina, Resident Aid Endowment, 2350 Lucas Street, Florence, S.C. 29501. Cain Funeral Home of Florence is assisting the family.

Mrs. Rowan, of Florence, formerly of Bennettsville, died Tuesday, Dec.18, 2007, at Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina. She was born Aug. 22, 1920, in Red Springs, N.C., to the late H.E. and Georgia Dinkel MacLeod Rowan.

She was a graduate of Bennettsville High School and Flora MacDonald College. Mrs. Rowan was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Union, and of the Women of the Church where she promoted "Friendship Group" and "Stamps for Missions". She continued the "Stamps for Missions" when she moved to the Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina in 1997. She was active in Union County with Girl Scouts as a troop leader. Gene loved being with family, especially at Litchfield Beach and was a devoted mother and grandmother. Mrs. Rowan loved the Presbyterian Community, was appreciated by all and showed concern for residents and staff.

Surviving are a son, Duncan (Suzanne S.) A. Rowan of Wilmington, Del.; a daughter, Martha (Paul) Osborne of Decatur, Ga.; grandchildren, Andrew, Hannah and Sarah Osborne; and great-grandson, Ty Ridgnal.
