UCDS improves to 3-1 on the season.
"That was one exciting game," said coach Billy Medford. "We were behind for most of the third and fourth periods, but our girls never quit and were able to pull a win out of it."
Seniors, Faith Estes and Jessica Dehart, scored four points each, with Estes picking up 13 rebounds and Dehart picking up six rebounds and two assists. Junior Britany Yon scored 6 points, had seven rebounds and an assist. Sophomore Hannah Manning scored 19 points with six rebounds and an assist.
"Everyone is doing their job," said Medford, "We already have a plan B set-up if what we're doing now stops working. Manning is doing most of the scoring right now, but it wouldn't be possible if the other four girls weren't out there doing their jobs so well."
Also contributing were: Junior Kellie Bennett and Freshman Elizabeth Spencer.
Boys
The Eagles defeated the Cougars 59-50 which could be a preview of things to come for the boys' team.
With Grant Shetley back on the roster, the Eagles are on the rise.
"It's not that one player is so important to the team," said assistant coach Preston Bennett. "We just know how well our boys complement each other. When all the pieces are in place, a puzzle becomes a picture. We are excited about this year's potential and the years we have ahead of this team as well."
Freshman Shetley led the Eagles with 27 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Dustin Medford scored 19 points, had 12 rebounds and three assists. Junior Eric Black scored 10 points, had 11 rebounds and two assists. Dustin Turner played well on defense.
